Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a remedial body work technique which is used to treat musculoskeletal and physiological complaints including sports injuries, as well as, acute and chronic conditions.
The Bowen technique is unique… the gentle, yet powerful, Bowen moves send neurological impulses through the soft tissues of the body to eventually reach the brain.
The response is immediate muscle relaxation and pain reduction. The technique involves a series of moves to hydrae (water) fascia or connective tissue. This increases fluid, energy and nutrient flow to the tissues allowing the body to heal itself.
Bowen Therapy utilises a holistic approach addressing the entire body while still focusing specific attention on the ailment, thereby addressing underlying causes as well as providing symptomatic relief.
Bowen Therapy is SAFE. The moves are made on soft tissue and so cannot create any short term or long term problems.

WHEN ENERGY FLOWS, PAIN GOES
Energy flowing freely improves body functions through the released tension.
A Bowen Therapy session lasts from 45 – 60 minutes.
This movement of fascia helps to:
- stimulate energy flow
- aids lymphatic drainage
- promotes good circulation
- releases tension
- increases mobility
- encourages the body to relax and realign
Work is usually performed with clients lying on a bodywork table and can be done over light clothing. The practitioner ‘rolls’ the skin and the muscles with their fingers, moving the fascia – superficial and deep – which causes hydration of all tissues in proximity of the move.
